The Victims of Osborne’s Budget
Already, older and disabled people, mainly women pensioners, are made to pay charges for council care, often from our attendance or disability living allowance. This Budget with its hike in VAT will make it even harder to afford heating and other disability expenses.
Swingeing cuts in services will hasten the deaths of many, denied help through rationing or driven away by charging and means-testing. The proposed medical assessment for disability living allowance will deny us cash help with care and mobility costs, if it is like the current examinations to assess fitness to work that pass two-thirds of claimants as fit, including those with terminal illness.
Meanwhile the bankers and politicians have come off relatively unscathed. Why should the most vulnerable pay to clear up their mess?
